UX/UI Design by Michael Palmer

Welcome to my portfolio. I am a UX/UI designer dedicated to making complex tasks clear, inspired and simple. To me good design is not just a job or a vocation, it’s an obsession!

I love to design effective digital products and services for people to enjoy and over the years, I have been fortunate to help create a number of innovative and award winning digital products.

I understand how to design and build effective, large scale systems and smaller scale creative projects. I have a passion for usability and user-centric design and strive to make elaborate systems elegant.

I love creating compelling, award winning user experiences for apps and mobile devices

Since 2010 I’ve specialised in UX/UI design within the Learning Technologies sector. Designing visually rich communication, information and technological tools to enhance engagement, teaching capabilities and assessment standards.

Web apps are software applications, running on a server and accessed through a browser. So pretty much everything on the web. I like to think that (well designed) web apps take complex business propositions and elegantly present them to customers.

Great design is integral to developing great digital products but it is the efficiency of the design process that is often the key to success.

Organisations need products that align and feel familiar to their customers, that behave in the same way and operate consistently. This critical objective is best achieved through reusable sets of design patterns and principles.

Pattern libraries enable maximum design productivity while retaining consistency and usability across all projects.

It’s a broad term ‘UX/UI Design’. It encompasses many different skill sets and can mean different things to different people (and for some it means nothing at all!). In simple terms there are two sides of UX design – analytical or visual – but fundamentally a UX/UI designer solves complex problems with design thinking.

The theory (What is UX/UI Design?) is a great place to start but in real project life scenarios how does this translate? To answer that it’s best to look at some examples from different stages of the process. Over the years I’ve worked on numerous projects that have required some in-depth planning and visually creative design.
