Digital Launchpad
- Commissioned by City & Guilds
- Completed October 2019
- Type: Learning Technology, Web App
- Roll: Consultancy, UX/UI Design
City & Guilds needed a single point of reference for all documentation from the GPT Initiative. It needed to be done quickly, it should use a lot of the components already designed and it was for an internal audience only.
With all this in mind the Digital Launchpad (DLP) was born.
Research
Design guides and pattern libraries had been around for a while so with a bit of research and time spent on competitor analysis we were able to define a matrix of key functionality and content.
We learned a lot.
Requirements
Aside from keeping it MVP and from a UX point-of-view it was agreed that the system should support:
- Formatting – to easily control layouts, styles and embed media
- Sectioning – for deep linking, code examples and commenting
- Versioning – to keep track of everything
- Relationships – parent/child and siblings as well as tags and/or facets
- Reporting – to track element deployments and team ownerships (nice to have)
Results
We didn’t achieve EVERYTHING but we got close:
- We developed and launched a collaborative platform to allow socialisation of the GPT Initiative.
- We published all documentation produced by all contributing projects.
- We created a layered high-level summary of information for a non-technical audience with more in depth knowledge for the technical development partners.
- We laid the foundations to easily extend the content offering and meet future requirements.
